Some of Earth’s most captivating landscapes are not land at all, but brilliant worlds that beckon from just beyond our reach. One such destination is the Great Barrier Reef, a coral reef system so spectacular that it can be seen from space. Inspirato members, Mr. and Mrs. Willis, underwater enthusiasts from Atlanta, had long wanted to plan a trip to the Great Barrier Reef. When our 2026 Inspirato Only tour of New Zealand opened up, they saw their chance to get closer. By extending their travel experience with Bespoke, they were able to make the most of their trip Down Under—and explore one of the great wonders of the world by land, air, and sea.

Fine Dining and High-Flying in Sydney
The custom journey began in Sydney, where the Willises were greeted by their local guide, Elda, and checked into their accommodations at Park Hyatt Sydney. The 5-star hotel’s location right on the waterfront, between the world-famous Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, offers exceptional access to all that the city offers. The Willises admired an iconic view as they made their way to dinner at 6HEAD, where they enjoyed a collaborative, chef-created menu featuring six cuts of high-quality Australian steak. Their meal was followed by a private sunset cruise around Sydney Harbour, complete with a bottle of local sparkling wine. The Inspirato team had planned and booked everything in advance, so all our intrepid travelers had to do was sit back, relax, and prepare for the adventure ahead—which would culminate in a trip to the Great Barrier Reef.

Day 1 in Sydney included a morning at leisure and a private 4-hour tour of the city’s must-see sights, with a walk along scenic trails and a drive to Bondi Beach. The laid-back itinerary was no accident; it was intentionally created to balance the excitement of Day 2: a full-day helicopter tour by Splendour Tailored Tours. The Willises soared over the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, Parramatta River, and Sydney Olympic Stadium, enjoying incredible views of the coastline and national park. They followed that with a trip to the Sydney Zoo—and the next morning, they left the city for the next leg of their Bespoke Australian excursion.
Adventure at The Edge of The World
Hamilton Island is pristine and remote, nestled as it is among the Whitsunday Islands at the edge of the Great Barrier Reef. It acts as a gateway to iconic diving destinations like Heart Reef, Hill Inlet, and Whitehaven Beach—all of which the Willises discovered while staying at qualia, amid 30 acres of tropical gardens at the island’s northernmost tip.

Days were spent discovering the Reef’s untouched beauty—its crystalline waters, multicolored reefs, and secret coves—by helicopter, snorkel, and glass-bottom boat. Come nightfall, the Willises enjoyed fine dining and hospitality at the resort. And when it was finally time to depart, whatever sadness they inevitably felt over saying goodbye to the Great Barrier Reef was cancelled out by the excitement they felt for their Inspirato Only experience with fellow members in New Zealand.
By adding a Bespoke adventure to their Inspirato Only experience, the Willises were able to enjoy the best of both worlds—and dive deeper into a part of the world they’d long been dreaming of.
